So, what is the World Carbon Database?  The WCD (www.worldcarbondatabase.org) is a non-profit open resource that indexes carbon offsets.  Carbon offsetting involves reducing one’s net emissions by buying the rights to emissions reductions generated by projects that reduce greenhouse gasses.   So, to make this a little easier… Let’s say you take an international flight.  You can buy offset credits for a small fee from companies like Terrapass, Native Energy or BEF to offset this flight.  This money will go towards funding reforestation, a wind farm or another project that generates emission reductions.

Make sense?  Don’t worry  - it will!

Also, make sure to check out www.SupportDotEco.com.  Dot Eco is an organization dedicated to promoting the acceptance and implementation of the top-level domain, .eco.  Dot Eco will allow individuals to express their support for environmental causes; companies to promote their environmental initiatives and commitments; and environmental organizations to maintain their websites in a namespace that emphasizes their core mission.  They also will have a HUGE hand in the nonprofit world and are committing to donating more than 50 percent back to environmental causes.  This means, Dot Eco has the potential to become one of the largest contributors to environmental causes fighting global warming.   We love that!

In recent news, Sigg and Laken publicly acknowledged that their bottles bought before August 2008 had BPA in the lining.  BPA is often linked to serious health issues.  In response to this news, EcoUsable launched their “Make A Switch” campaign, encouraging people to send in their old bottles for discounted new BPA-free, eco-friendly, stainless ones.

I walked the Avon walk in San Francisco in 2007. To date, it was one of the most amazing experiences in my life. I met some incredible women and was truly touched by everyone who supported me and this cause.
